ASsIST 2026

A Year of Shared Humanity

Words tell our stories, Actions forge our realities.

In 2026, ASsIST invites you to reflect on the simple truth that ‘our humanity is shared’.

People seeking protection in Greece are not defined by displacement alone. They arrive with relationships, knowledge, responsibilities, and hopes that connect them to others across borders.

Many are fleeing persecution, conflict, or serious harm, and arrive in Greece after journeys marked by loss, persistent fear, uncertainty, and trauma.

Respect continues to guide ASsIST’s work in every aspect of what we do. We aim to provide clear, accurate, and rights-based information while approaching our work
with respect and solidarity towards those who seek our services.

Throughout ASsIST’s Year of Shared Humanity, we will continue to provide free and accurate information, support access to legal services, and assist people navigating the Greek asylum system.

Interpretation and translation support will continue to be available across our services in more than 12 languages.

2026 begins a second decade shaped by large-scale arrivals in Greece, continuing legislative change, increasing procedural complexity at national level, and the gradual implementation of elements of the EU Pact on Migration and Asylum, some of which begin to apply from June 2026.

Access to asylum procedures has become more difficult, timelines less predictable, and the consequences of misunderstanding and misinformation more severe. In this context, access to free, accurate information and legal services, in a language that one understands, is key to being better informed, better prepared, and less excluded, with greater confidence, autonomy, and a realistic sense of possibility.

ASsIST’s role remains focused: ensuring that people can understand their rights, obligations, and options, and make informed decisions at moments of uncertainty and vulnerability.

Our Team will continue to provide

  • Practical, up-to-date information on asylum procedures and related processes so people can understand what is required of them and what protections
    the law affords.
  • Interpretation and translation services, to reduce language barriers that prevent people from understanding procedures, decisions, and next steps.
  • Support to individuals to navigate complex administrative systems by clarifying processes and timelines.
  • Referrals to appropriate trusted services and support structures

AssIST will continue to use secure digital tools to maintain professional and confidential communication, protect personal data, and continuity of information and access to legal services.

In 2026, ASsIST will continue working to ensure that people navigating the Greek asylum system have access to clearer information, professional support, and services that help reduce isolation, uncertainty, and exclusion.

Shared humanity is shaped by how we treat others, and by how people are treated by institutions that exercise power over their lives.
